Kathy Hochul (D) · Governor of New York (on Nov. 3, 2026 ballot)
Topic: NYC congestion pricing toll
“I have come to the difficult decision that implementing the planned congestion pricing system risks too many unintended consequences for New Yorkers at this time. For that reason, I have directed the MTA to indefinitely pause the program.”
“By getting congestion pricing underway and fully supporting the MTA capital plan, we’ll unclog our streets, reduce pollution and deliver better public transit for millions of New Yorkers.”
Context: In June 2024 Gov. Hochul paused the $15 toll indefinitely, citing costs. In November 2024 she brought congestion pricing back with a $9 daytime toll, 40% lower, saying in the same release: "As I said from the start, a $15 toll was just too high in this economic climate." The toll started on Jan. 5, 2025.
